Same beach. Different surfers.
Why a beach recommendation is only a starting point: describe your experience, clarify the session and prepare a useful enquiry for Anza.

Choose a surf session around your actual experience and the conditions on the day. A beach’s reputation cannot replace that conversation, even when your friends have surfed there before.
A recommendation often starts with a place name. A useful booking conversation starts with the people going into the water. Here is how to turn a general recommendation into a specific enquiry without ranking beaches as universally easy or safe.
Describe what you can do, not just your level
A label such as beginner or intermediate can mean different things to different people. Before choosing a session, write down what you have actually practised: whether you have taken a lesson, caught broken waves with help, paddled independently, or controlled a board around other people. Include when you last surfed. This is information for a discussion, not a self-assessment that qualifies you for a particular beach.
Two friends can have the same number of lessons and want different things next. One may want to repeat the basics; another may be looking for feedback on a particular skill. Tell the team both goals rather than booking around the more confident person.
A beach name does not describe the whole session
The National Weather Service explains that waves, tides and the shape of a beach influence rip currents, which can form near gaps in sandbars and structures. A familiar place therefore still needs a current assessment. A quiet-looking patch of water is not evidence of a suitable route into the sea.
This illustration is deliberately conceptual: it does not locate currents, rocks or entry points in Anza. A destination guide and an old session photograph are useful for planning a trip, but neither establishes today’s conditions.
Ask what the session will involve
Instead of asking whether a beach is “for beginners”, ask what is being proposed for your experience on your date. Will this be a coached introduction or a rental without coaching? What goal will the lesson address? Where and when should you meet, and what needs confirmation on the day?
Wake Wave offers lessons and rentals in Anza, with arrangements confirmed on WhatsApp. A rental enquiry and a lesson enquiry are different requests. Do not assume that collecting equipment includes supervision. For a mixed-level group, explain everyone’s experience and ask how the team can accommodate it before choosing a format.
Use a short decision checklist
Before committing to the session, separate what is known from what still needs an answer. This makes the conversation more useful than comparing attractive photographs of several beaches. Keep the questions in your phone so you can return to them when the team replies.
- Experience: what has each person practised, and when?
- Format: coached lesson or equipment rental?
- Confirmation: date, meeting point, equipment and final arrangements?
- Changes: who contacts whom, and what happens if the session is postponed?
Keep the option to change the plan
The RNLI’s general surfing guidance recommends knowing your limits and checking weather and tides. Those principles do not establish local lifeguard coverage or make any Moroccan beach suitable by default. If the proposed session is unclear or feels beyond your experience, say so before entering the water and ask about another arrangement.
For a trip from elsewhere in Morocco, agree how the team will contact you if the plan changes. Confirm the meeting details before arranging the final part of your journey. A successful plan leaves room to postpone; it does not need a guaranteed wave or a promise that everyone will surf together.
Before you head to the beach
Can friends with different experience enquire together?
Yes. Describe each person’s experience and goals, then ask the team to confirm a suitable format. A shared enquiry does not guarantee the same session for everyone.
Does this guide recommend an entry point at Anza?
No. The illustration is conceptual. Ask the team about the actual session and follow current local instructions.
