The short version

Choose a group session for a shared introduction. Ask about private coaching when you want the session built around a specific goal. In either case, confirm the level, conditions and arrangements with the team.

You have a day by the ocean, a few friends ready to join, or perhaps one thing you want to improve on a board. The next decision is not simply which lesson costs less. It is how you want to learn. A shared introduction and a focused coaching request solve different problems.

This guide compares Wake Wave’s group lesson and private coaching options in Anza, Agadir. It explains what is listed today, what still needs a conversation, and how to send a useful booking request. The photographs are from our own photo bank; they show moments from sessions, not a promise about the size or format of your booking.

When a group lesson makes sense

A group session is worth considering when sharing the experience is part of the reason you are coming. You might be trying surfing with a friend, organising a holiday activity, or prefer learning alongside other people. Watching a demonstration and then discussing what felt difficult can give you useful questions to ask the coach.

A group booking still needs the right fit. Tell the team if everyone is new to surfing or if one person already catches waves. Do not assume that joining with friends automatically means the whole session is reserved for your party. Ask how participants are grouped and what support is available for different levels. The group photograph here is a memory from a session, not a published participant limit.

When to ask about private coaching

A private coaching request starts with what you want to work on. Describe something concrete: you have tried a lesson but still struggle with standing up, you want feedback on your positioning, or you would like a more individual introduction. A clear goal is more useful than simply saying you want to get better.

Private does not automatically mean one fixed duration, a guaranteed number of waves or every extra included. Wake Wave’s private option is arranged by request. Confirm the coaching format, number of participants, equipment, duration and price before deciding. More focused attention may fit your learning preference, but neither format can guarantee progress on a particular timetable.

Compare the whole session, not just the price

The current group listing describes a two-hour lesson with a board, wetsuit and coach. The private listing asks you to confirm its arrangements with the team. Check the live service pages for the current offer, then ask for the final price and inclusions for your date. Do not compare two prices unless you know they cover the same duration and equipment.

Also check the meeting point and when to arrive. A listed shop opening time is not necessarily your lesson start time. If you are travelling from another part of Agadir, Tamraght or Taghazout, arrange the journey after the session is confirmed. Transport, photographs, meals or a reserved group should never be assumed to be included unless the team has agreed them.

Your level and the ocean come first

Be honest about previous lessons, comfort in the water and what you can do without help. If you are booking for someone else, ask them rather than guessing. The useful question is not just ‘Can I join?’ but ‘Is this session suitable for my experience and the conditions on the day?’

The RNLI’s general surfing guidance recommends checking weather and tides, recognising your limits and using appropriate equipment. That is background guidance, not a forecast for Anza or evidence of local lifeguard coverage. The team’s assessment and local instructions matter for your particular session. Neither a sunny photograph nor a preferred time slot tells you that the sea will be suitable.

Five details to send before you book

A short, specific message helps the team recommend an option and avoids several rounds of questions. Include these details, then wait for a clear confirmation of the session and price. For children or mixed-age groups, also give the ages and ask which arrangements are suitable.

  • Your preferred date and how flexible you can be.
  • How many people want to join, and their experience levels.
  • Whether you want a shared lesson or a private coaching request.
  • One learning goal or question you would like help with.
  • Any equipment needs, plus confirmation of price, meeting point and change/cancellation terms.

Before you head to the beach

Can a complete beginner ask for private coaching?

Yes, you can make that request. Explain that it is your first session and ask the team to confirm a suitable format. Private coaching is not reserved only for experienced surfers.

Can friends with different levels book together?

Send everyone's level before booking. The team needs to confirm whether one session suits the group or whether a different arrangement is needed; do not assume a mixed-level group can always follow the same session.

Is sending a WhatsApp message a confirmed booking?

No. Your message starts the request. Wait for the team to confirm availability, date, meeting arrangements and the agreed price before treating it as booked.
